Travel day today. So naturally, Ken had to go hike something. Ken got up early this morning to climb the Hill of Three Crosses – the highest point in Vilnius. He didn’t even ask me if I wanted to go. I’d be hurt if I wasn’t so relieved.
So, the Hill of Three Crosses – Ken said it was honestly a bit of a letdown after you’ve seen the Hill of 10 Million Crosses.
Bought a bottle of water at the airport in Vilnius to take on the plane with me. There is something wrong with this water. OMG, SALTY. Absolutely undrinkable. Like they bottled the Dead Sea. ![]()
Arrival in Munich
In other news: I can retire my hat and mittens today – it’s 65 degrees in Munich! ![]()
Germany is mostly closed on Sundays, so only window shopping for me today. Will see what kind of trouble I can get into tomorrow. Look at these little ceramic birdies I found in a window – pretty sure I’m going to need a few of these for my garden once the store opens tomorrow.
Even closed, there are tons of people out and about in Munich this afternoon. Great people watching. Stores are closed, but you can still find a beer and a pretzel. And that first sip of German beer *in* Germany – just hits different. Mmm.
You know what IS open in Munich on Sunday? Churches. I’ve been in most of the churches in Munich, but always worth a revisit. I need to find a book that explains the difference (visually) between the different architectural styles of churches and cathedrals.
Typical Bavarian dinner tonight. Giant knuckle of pork and – naturlich, more beer. ![]()
Incredibly loud in the restaurant, so retreated to the hotel bar for some wonderful Willi (pear) schnapps to end the evening.
Prost! 🍻

Travel date: April 13, 2025

Lovely photos of my favourite city in Germany! Don’t think I could get thru’ a Bavarian ‘Schweinehaxe’ any more these days, especially if a pile of sauerkraut embellished it! Trust you will have some happy family time now ere returning home . . .
I wrote a comment but I’m not sure it’s landed….??
I don’t see it so it’s probably still surfing around in the interwebs somewhere. 😉
It said something like….as an unshakeable beer drinker and someone who’s been to a fair few German cities, I haven’t been to Munich yet. I’ve seen Bayern play though so that’s a nearly. Thus I’ll be interested in reading more to see how I can tempt Michaela to go…she is not a member of the German Cuisine Fan Club.
I’m jealous – I’d love to see Bayern play! The good news for Michaela is that Munich is a very cosmopolitan city – you can get many types of cuisine, not just the Bavarian hits!
