Non-shooters are touring today – with a different tour company. We’re in the medieval wool manufacturing town of Shrewsburyshire. It’s really Shrewsbury, I just like appending all British town names with shire.
Our guide’s name is Nigel. Nigel knows all the things about Shrewsbury. He has published several books on Shrewsbury. Did not learn this until after we said goodbye, or I would heave bought one and asked him to autograph. Might still buy one.
Shrewsbury is famous for its half timbered 15th and 16th century black and white houses. The high rent district was taller buildings, with more overhang and more carvings.
Learned all about the “shuts” of Shrewsbury – the narrow passages between buildings that allow you to get from one street to another. Really sneaky if you’re playing hide and seek.
Nigel is a member of the Shrewsbury Drapers Company, so we had lunch at the old Drapers Hall. The building was constructed in 1535. We had a great lunch – tried Welsh black cider – delicious. Highlight: we ate at a table that was built in 1630. Tangible history.
Visited the school Charles Darwin attended. It is a library today, but they kept the original beams and wooden desks. Fascinated by all the 18th and 19th century graffiti on the desks. I feel like kids were better name carvers back then.
Super excited to find a Kindness Rock today. Found it leaning up against a statue in Shrewsbury Market Square. Ken found one in Scotland last year. Might keep this one bc poppies are my favorites. But will check it in w the FB group and let them know I brought it to a new home in the US.
Shooters reported a banner day of shooting . . . so everyone came back happy and exhausted.

Cheers!

I could just jump into your photos! I have an English Tudor home and it’s my favorite style.
Do you really?!? I’m soooo jealous. Tudor is my very favorite style, as well. We don’t see it very often here in the US.
