New country for me! We’re in Antigua, Guatemala for the wedding of our “family-you-choose” friends’ son. Have known this young man since he was three. If he’s old enough to get married, that makes me, well . . . old, I guess.
Smooth travel day. There’s something to be said for international travel on the same continent. The travel gods rewarded me for that nightmare 46 hour Norway travel saga.
Absolutely brilliant shot of our approach into Guatemala City by Holly, one of our travel gang.
Minor international incident at the Guatemala City Airport when the drug dog alerted on *someone’s* (for clarity, it wasn’t me) bag. Turns out, the drug dog is also a forbidden fruit dog. No fresh fruit allowed into the country. Regardless of whether said fruit was already eaten and “just the core”.
Arrived after dark, and immediately into the shuttle to Antigua. Took a couple of shots of GC from the shuttle. Wished it was light outside.
Checked-in to our hotel in Antigua which looks like it’s going to be spectacular in the daylight. Immediately got fern envy.
I know pitifully little about the country of Guatemala. Ordered a couple of books to try and get through while we’re here. Miles of history here. Not especially uplifting material, but fascinating.
At the risk of getting all maudlin and sappy, we’re so grateful and honored to be here to share in this occasion. We love these people to our core. That’s something that needs to be said and said again as we all get older.

We’ve been there, but mostly in the jungle. I’ve honestly had enough jungle in my lifetime. Great photos!
In the jungle? Oh, that would have been a deal breaker for me!
