I went out into the field with the shooters this morning. Intended to take photos, but accidentally got myself a job as Ken’s loader. I am a great loader. Well, I was a great loader until I learned loaders carry all the gear and clean guns at the end of the day. And then I resigned my new position.

The fields were a muddy, mucky, boggy mess. My wellies are now well seasoned.

There were probably about twenty different dogs out with us working the fields. Bonded with a this handsome spaniel.

Had a complete wardrobe malfunction. Catastrophic jeans rip, right across my ass. Had to strip down in the field (who is this lunatic from America?), and wrap my shirt around my ass. Luckily, Liz had an extra rain skirt in her bag that I put on over my air-conditioned jeans for the rest of the day. It was a whole look. I believe this is karma’s way of telling me not to wear jeans into the field next time. Tweed. I need more tweed.

While the shooters were finishing their day, the not-shooters got a private tour of Murthly Castle from the owner himself, Thomas Fothringham. I believe he is the 21st Earl of Something or Another, but I don’t remember exactly. They rarely give tours, maybe one or two a year, so we felt honored to have the experience. Thomas led us on extensive walk through the property and formal gardens. Naturally, I fell up a flight of stairs that was covered in moss. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to leave this country without falling at least once. I blame the jeans situation.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Scotland. We made 13 wonderful new friends this week, Ken had a top-notch shooting experience, and we had the opportunity to see a few pieces of this beautiful country. Overall, Scotland gets a 10/10. We loved it from start to finish, and will definitely return.
