First: Happy Birthday to my dad … Sláinte!!

BIG NEWS: I found not one, but two Scotch whiskies I not only don’t hate, but actually like. No one is more shocked than me. Bought two bottles of each. Will be getting creative with packing on the way home. Just hoping I don’t get it all home and discover Scotch only tastes good in Scotland.

Visited John Dickson & Son, the oldest gunmaker in Scotland. The history buff in me loves that Dickson has a record of every single gun sale since its inception in 1820. It reads like a who’s who in Scottish and world history. Ken drooled over some shotguns. I wandered outside and took some photos. Fascinated by the moss that grows all over everything here. Back inside: observant sales manager sees I’m starting to wilt and offers me a whisky. Enter whisky #1 that I like: Edradour, the smallest whisky distillery in Scotland.

Got a wee bit hangry. I’m a delight when I’m hangry. Stopped at The House of Bruar, which is kind of like a superstore for Scottish stuff. You can get all manner of tweed, tartan, cashmere, shortbread, and … heather hedgehogs (see photo).

Tried to find a tweed hat that didn’t look ridiculous on me. They don’t make such a hat.

International incident: Ken made the young HoB sales girl giggle madly by for asking for “rain pants”. In Scotland, pants are underwear, so Ken asked for waterproof underwear. I also giggled.

Attended a fantastic whisky tasting this afternoon, given by local whisky expert, Will, from the Dunkeld Whisky Box. Will says there is no right or wrong when it comes to adding water to whisky. I like Will. Second likable whisky: Lindores Single Malt. I’m just expanding my horizons all over the place.

Asked how much whisky is in a dram: so, pubs/bars can either serve a dram as 25ml (.85oz) or 35ml (1.18oz) depending on their license. For comparison: the standard US pour for spirits is 1.5oz. This explains why the double Irish whiskey I ordered last night looked a little skimpy.

Had another delicious Scottish cider and another bite (singluar) of haggis at dinner tonight. Add that to liking two Scotch whiskies, and I’m pretty much Scottish now.

Thanks to Delaney & Sons for another great day in Scotland!
