Tolos & Nafplio, Greece 🇬🇷

This morning, we tied up on the island of Tolos, which has stunning, protected cove.

Oh look, a cave. With water. Goodie. My basic position on caves is: never.

I don’t have a good track record with caves. Getting near a cave always seems to end in a Xanax situation for me. Before today, I would have said there was a ZERO percent chance I’d get near another cave. Gathered my wits, and agreed to go *near* the cave (btw, totally sober). Only moderate flight urge. Then Ken swam me into the cave about 3 inches (see photo evidence). Full flight urge. But I didn’t die. So I’m pretty much a cave diver now.

Ken has bonded with the ship captain, Iannis. Turns out Iannis went through the Greek Naval Academy at the same time Ken went through USNA. Instant brotherhood. Lots of ship talk.

Ate the traditional Greek summer dish of Gemistas for lunch – stuffed peppers and tomatoes. And more feta. I’m on a feta binge.

Tried the Greek lager, NΗΣΟΣ. Spent some time trying to learn how to pronounce NΗΣΟΣ. It’s Nissos, btw. Greek is hard. Greek beer is delicious.

We’re docked in the ancient city of Nafplio in the eastern Peloponnese for the night. We walked around the charming old town. Ken hiked to the top of the fortress. Because Ken. There isn’t a castle, fort, or church bell tower in Europe that he doesn’t want to climb. He took photos from the top.

Finished the night with ouzo. I love ouzo. But no one else in our party of six liked it. So I ended up with six ouzos. Yamas! I’m going to bed now.
