A glorious day of shooting with Delaney & Sons in Spain today. I shot my first red-legged partridge, drank some sherry, froze my ass off, and drank some more sherry.
Bought Ken a beautiful Spanish leather belt in Córdoba yesterday. Did not know belt sizing in Europe is wonky. Way too small for Ken. So now *I* have a beautiful Spanish leather belt. I swear I didn’t do this on purpose.
Out in the field for the final day of shooting today.
It’s BRRRRR today. I’m freezing.
I left my warm hat and gloves at the house. So naturally, I need them.
Quick snuggle with my dog buddy, Montecado.
Shooting.
11:00 Sherry. Feeling warmer.
Also helping: a German hunting dog (Tekel) puppy named Lola. Adorable.
More shooting.
BIG NEWS: I shot my first Spanish red-leg partridge. Ken’s secretario, David, insisted I shoot on the second drive. Surprised myself and got right in there. Probably the Sherry. And I actually shot a bird! Much celebration, all around.
1:00 Sherry.
More shooting.
Made friends with the pack of white Labradors (pack of Jacks) that work the hunts. Ugh. I love them.
3:00 Sherry and lunch.
Have had quite a bit of Sherry today.
Ken’s loader today was a super cute 18 year old named Marco. Child whips out a cigarette and lights up, which causes me to go into instant mom-mode. ¿Qué estás haciendo? ¿Estás loco?? He just laughed and continued to smoke his cigarette. My mom-mode must be more intimidating in English. Anyway, he’ll have a good story about the crazy American lady who yelled at him about smoking – in a language closely resembling Spanish.
Anyway, I tried.
Back to the house to pack. And shower. We’re all exhausted. EARLY morning tomorrow.
Salud!

Beautiful photos! Love those dogs and puppies.
Thanks, Mimi!
Well, you look very professional alongside all the other shooters! Good sherries and gorgeous dogs and puppies – I can think of a few worse situations! And good on you for having a nice, steady hand!
Thanks, Eha. I’ll tell my husband I look “professional”!
