Various Places in Wales, idek 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Shooters are shooting today. Non-shooters are touring.

Touring was …. interesting. Pretty sure we were held hostage in a van most of the day. Bc other than the inside of that van, I’m not entirely sure what we saw.

To wit: we drove to a castle, did a u-turn in the parking lot, and left. Never got out of the car.

Guide did want to stop (and get out!) in the town of Oswestry – to see some castle ruins from the 11th century. We saw a pile of very old rocks.

We were going to do another castle drive-by, but we asked to get out and SEE the castle. Hiked up a giant-ass hill to discover – castle closed. Did get a cool shot of a rainbow.

Also: I paid 40 pence to use a toilet.

Redeemed a bit when we stopped for lunch at a super cute pub in another town whose name I cannot pronounce. Had fish and chips with mushy peas. Mushy peas are growing on me.

Tour-man kept going on about brown sauce this and brown sauce that. So, at lunch, we had a comparison between Heinz ketchup and HP brown sauce. Brown sauce is weird. It’s not quite BBQ sauce, and it’s not quite A1. Everyone around here is absolutely crazy for it. Meh. Ketchup is better.

Sidebar: have been trying to find someone in this country who speaks Welsh – harder than you’d think. Finally found Caris at the pub. She was camera shy, but taught us how to say cheers – Llechyd Da. It’s pronounced “yoch-eee-dah”. Honestly, the Welsh language is just plain impossible. You think German is guttural? Welsh: hold my beer. I recognize letters, but after that, it looks like alphabet soup.

Walked over the aqueduct of something. Was very cold and windy. Channeled my inner Queen Elizabeth with the scarf.

Tomorrow is a another day!

Llechyd Da!

  1. I am impressed with your blog discipline (and of course your blog quality). I started a very sporadic blog shortly after you and I completed the CSW course with Miss Jane. I couldn’t even get up to one blog a week. My Looking forward to reading more about your travels!

    • Thanks so much! Jane’s CSW class is very well done, and she’s so entertaining. That was the first “real” wine class I did. It provides the perfect foundation/springboard if you want to go further in wine study. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers!
