I think this is technically still Day 2. Not sure. Still sleep deprived.
Update: WE MADE IT TO TROMSØ!!
Missed our morning activity because of the flight situation. It was dog sledding, which I was really looking forward to. Trying not to be Salty Sally about it.
Spent the afternoon unpacking and exploring the town. The sidewalks are covered with ice. Doesn’t seem to bother/deter any of the Norwegians. Ken says there’s a 1 in 3 chance I fall before we leave this country. I put it closer to 2 in 3.
Arrival selfie: Yes, I’m wearing all the fur now. And I am not cold.
So, there’s a serious troll situation in Tromsø. You all know I love my gnomes, but I just cannot get behind these trolls. They creep me out. There’s even a Troll Museum here. Hard pass.
Scandinavia is one of the few places in the world where someone who is as pale as I am actually blends in with the native population. I walk into a store, and people start speaking to me in Norwegian. And then I have to spoil the fun and open my English mouth. But, I have not been told once that I need to “get some sun”. It’s glorious.
Learned a little about the Norwegian concept of hygge, which loosely translates to “cozy coffee break”. With delicious cake.
It got dark here by about 4pm today. The locals are pretty excited, though, as the days are now getting longer by 15 minutes each day.
Found some whale sausage and cod chip snacks. Might try when I’m not so tired. Might not.
Planning an absurdly early dinner followed by an equally absurdly early bedtime.
God natt!
