Korakia & Portokheli, Greece πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

My new favorite (and I’ve already had many) Greek food is Bougatsa. It’s a traditional food from the region of Thessaloniki. It’s a sweet, custard-like phyllo pie with cinnamon. Ate more than I should have. Delicious.

This morning, we tied up on the island of Korakia. It’s mostly uninhabited, except for (in the words of our deckhand) one super rich guy. Got to watch a storm roll in and out. Made for some dramatic photos. The island is home to a herd of wild goats, who drink sea water without issue to survive. I had no idea. Apparently, the goats belong to said super rich guy. No swimming for me today. Too busy watching goats.

I am the palest person on this boat. Hell, I’m the palest person in Greece. I don’t blend in at all. Yesterday, someone in Nafplio asked if I was from Sweden. Basically. We joked with our boat crew about farmer tans. They laughed, and said in Greece they call that look, β€œtaxi-driver tan”.

Anchored tonight in the town of Portokheli. Saw a beautiful rainbow. Walked around town a bit. Walked through an art gallery. Talked to the artist, who said his pieces were a β€œreflection of mythical dreams.” I’m not esoteric enough to know what that means. Led to a rather spirited discussion as to whether something is art or not. Honestly, I thought his pieces were a bit alarming. I’m the beholder. And that’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Back to the boat for dinner. Ate the biggest shrimps I’ve ever seen in my life. And then someone leaked my birthday (which isn’t until the 25th) to the crew, and the chef made me a banana cream cake, complete with sparklers! Also, the crew sang to me in Greek. Didn’t understand a word, but I was so touched by their thoughtfulness.
