Mykonos, Greece πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

We loved Mykonos! No funicular, no switchbacks, no donkeys. No donkey shit.

Still had to tender ashore. Still don’t like that process.

Grabbed another delicious Greek coffee. Did some shopping. Took another 7,827 pictures of the girls. They will actually like/approve of 6 of them.

Mykonos is breathtaking. The bougainvillea are so striking they look fake.

Today’s adventure: Headed to the other side of the island for horseback riding on the beach. We all packed our cowboy boots for this adventure. Yes, the four of us walked around Mykonos town in boots. Cowboy boots are surprisingly comfortable. Kinda hot, but comfortable. We turned some heads, for sure. At least half a dozen people asked us if we were from Texas. Because everyone knows that Texas is the only place in the US where people wear cowboy boots.

The owner of the stables, an affable (and slightly crazy) Greek named Fanis, picked us up in town. He was 20 minutes late to the meeting point. In Greek time, he was early. Btw, Fanis loved our cowboy boots. Fanis told us the first thing we need to know about Mykonos traffic is that β€œeveryone is trying to kill you”. Fanis really, REALLY likes to use his car horn. He drives with his head out the window beeping and yelling at everyone. It was an exciting ride.

Arrived at the stables, where we got a short instruction, and then we were off with our guide, Thaya, who was younger than A&B. Got to see a lot of real(er) Mykonos – the farm and agriculture side.

Stopped at the beach and had a lovely lunch at the local taverna. Had a proper Greek salad (no lettuce!!).

My horse tripped on the way back, and nearly collapsed us both. But he kept his cool, and I stayed on the horse. I’m pretty much a cowgirl now. But honestly, if any horse was going to trip and fall, it would be mine.

There are 300 chapels scattered across Mykonos. We saw 27 of them. Overall an absolute home-run experience. I had a lot more fun than I thought I would (I’ve only ridden a horse a half dozen times). Maybe I’ll take some lessons when I get home.

Fanis invited us to a party tonight where he will be β€œdancing and breaking plates”. Alas, we had to return to the ship. A fantastic day!

Tomorrow: At sea.
