Corfu, Greece 🇬🇷

Had ourselves an ADVENTURE today in Corfu. Stress-tested our motion sickness patches. We took a tour from the port up to Mount Pantokratoras, the highest point on the island of Corfu.

Our 4×4 was driven by a gregarious Greek man named Nicos, who told us Corfu is beautiful and unique, but Crete is the best Greek island. Because he’s from Crete. “It’s my island”.

Mount Pantokratoras is accessible only with a 4×4 (we did pass two poor souls who attempted the climb in a Honda Civic, and gave up). The drive consists of roughly 323 rocky, hairpin turns. All hail motion sickness patches!!

Nico said there are over 4 million olive trees planted on the island of Corfu. I didn’t count them.

We stopped for a quick coffee at the beach. We all agreed it was the best coffee of our lives.

Drove up the mountain. And up. More up. Arrived at the top (stomach contents intact), where there is a Greek Orthodox monastery, which has been there since the 14th century. I’d hate to be the guy who has to make a grocery run from up there. The views were spectacular.

Sidebar: We saw Albania from the top of Mount Pantokratoras. We’ve also sailed through Albanian waters. So trying to decide if that means we’ve been to Albania.

On the way down the mountain, we stopped for lunch in the ancient village of Perithia. We all agreed the tzatziki was the best we’d ever had. Several bests today.

Needed to be back at the port by 3:30 for cruise departure. Got stuck behind a bus going 2mph all the way down the mountain. Gradually watched Nico’s body language change as the minutes went by. The man was stressed, but trying not to show it. We made it to the port! For the record, I kept my shit together – didn’t lose one single bit of my shit. Wanted to, but didn’t.

Tomorrow: Santorini.
